Paul earned his MS degree in Chemical Engineering in 1973 from Eindhoven Technical University in the Netherlands. He gained more than 20 years experience in areas related to Chemical Engineering, like chemistry instructor in and co-founder of the Chemical Technology Department of the Iligan Institute of Technology in the Philippines (from 1974 to 1977), process design engineer (from 1977 to 1981) and research scientist (from 1990 to 1995) for Billiton International Metals in the Netherlands, and process development engineer and team leader at Worsley Alumina in Western Australia (from 1981 to 1990).

Paul was trained as lead assessor quality systems (1993) and is Senior Member, Certified Quality Auditor (2002), Certified Quality Manager (2003) and Certified Quality Engineer (2004) of the American Society for Quality (ASQ). He is also Member of the Standing Review Board of ASQ Quality Press.

In 2004 Paul became Member of the Asia Pacific Quality Organization (APQO).

He has 10 years experience as QHSE-coordinator, QA-auditor and QA-consultant for technical companies and a research institute in the Netherlands.
